Founded as a grassroots literary collective and organized by Artistic/Founding Director Sehba Sarwar and five diverse women poets and writers, Voices Breaking Boundaries’ first show took place over 10 years ago on February 27, 2000 at a bookstore in southwest Houston. More than a decade later, even though our methods of creating art have become more sophisticated, we are proud to say that VBB’s focus is the same as when we first began: to give voice to marginalized communities—of all ages and backgrounds—and create consciousness and connections about local, national and global issues.

VBB has these past years grown to produce over 170 multidisciplinary shows and conduct more than 14 arts education programs. We have brought together people from all walks of life, including: immigrants from countries such as Mexico, Pakistan, Iraq, and Bangladesh; local communities such as Houston's Third Ward and the historic East End; as well as all ages ranging from babies and their parents, to teens and seniors. VBB does all this work with a tiny staff and the support of an amazing team of artists. Our programming is truly a testimony to the generosity of everyone we work with and to Houston itself.

We, however, cannot continue serving Houston and bringing marginalized issues to the forefront, without funding from supporters such as you.
In return for your support, we promise to continue persistently and fearlessly speaking out on issues that raise difficult questions and bring disparate communities together to engage in art, conversation and global consciousness. In addition, you will be listed along side our other current donors on our website and in our print materials.

Thank you for your support. If you have any questions about becoming a donor, please contact VBB’s Managing Director, ana<at>vbbarts.org
