DVD: Patti Smith Live!
In 2003, VBB Artistic Director/Founder Sehba Sarwar encountered writer, poet and punk rock star Patti Smith at LaGuardia Airport. Over the years, Sarwar remained in touch with Patti Smith, and in 2009, Patti Smith flew to Houston for a special reading and performance that she donated to Voices Breaking Boundaries. She read from her prize-winning memoir, Just Kids, and performed much-loved songs including Because the Night and My Blakean Years (for which she improvised a verse about her Houston visit and her time with Sarwar and Sarwar's daughter), and she answered questions from the audience.
Thanks to documentary artists (Yunuen Perez Vertti and Faroukh Virani) who collaborate with VBB, Patti Smith’s 2010 Houston performance is now available on DVD for just $15 (+$3 shipping).
DVD: Artists and Dissent
In 2004, for a project conceptualized by VBB Artistic Director/Founder Sehba Sarwar, Houston-based filmmaker Laura Harrison created a special one-hour documentary for VBB, Artists and Dissent, for which she interviewed more than 50 Houston-based artists, including Diane Barber, Fady Joudah, Rathna Kumar, Rick Lowe, Koy Severino, Bapsi Sidhwa, Sixto Wagan, and many more. This DVD is available for $10 (+shipping).
