Words from Exile: Suheir Hammad
Beats from the Middle East / Rhymes from Occupied Palestine

Thursday, January 25, 2007 , 8pm onward
General admission: $5 (no one turned away)
Proletariat, 903 Richmond Ave , Houston , TX 77006

This event was supported by Poets & Writers, Inc.

More than 250 people came out on a cold Houston night to hear Suheir Hammad perform at the Proleteriat. The event was packed (some were being turned away because we couldn’t fit another single person!) and those who attended left moved by her powerful presentation.

Hammad herself left touched by Houston and the work that VBB presents and a few days after leaving she shot us an email saying: “houston is truly blessed to have you.”

VBB recieved many in person compliments about the show but some audience members took time out to email us the next day. Here’s what a few said:

“I really enjoyed the show!  I am not familiar with Suheir’s work, so I watched a few YouTube clips before going.  Of course she was much better in person.  She engages with the audience so well.”

“It was an incredible show on Thursday!!!  Really, really powerful!!!!!  One of the best things I have seen in recent memory….You guys did a great job.
