How We Started

How We Started: February 2000- July 2000

During our first year, we held two readings a month on the second and fourth Sunday of each month at Borders Books. Each month featured an open mike and the fourth Sunday was a showcased reading.

Very early on, we began including music into our showcase by inviting artists such as Jabari Aziz and John Edward Ross. At this time, VBB was still a grassroots group, and funding to pay all artists came through Sehba Sarwar’s Personal Artist Project Grant via the Cultural Arts Council of Houston/ Harris County.
